OHAS has been making important contributions
to affordable housing and related services in the Marion/Polk County
area, and throughout Oregon for over 35-years. Founded in 1965 by
a local minister concerned about the need for affordable housing
for members of his congregation, the company was incorporated as
a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation in 1970. Our Strategic
Plan continues to support the goals of housing for low-income elderly
and disabled individuals.
Silvertowne
We have developed, own and manage two
housing complexes in Silverton Oregon. Started in 1975, Silvertowne,
our first senior housing venture, was completed in 1977 and is comprised
of forty independent-living housing units, clustered in duplex fashion,
around a central general purpose building. Used for group gatherings
and other social events, it combines a large meeting area with a
general purpose kitchen, laundry room and modest library.
Silvertowne
II
In 1992, Silvertowne II was completed.
This second phase added an additional forty-six duplex and triplex
units designed for independent-living, low-income elderly and disabled
individuals. The complex contains another general-purpose meeting
building with similar amenities to Phase One. The on-site managers
(a couple) act as business managers as well as social directors
for many of the group events at the two adjacent complexes. Both
Silvertowne and Silvertowne II were built using funds from Rural
Development (formerly called the Farmers Home Administration), a
division of the Federal Department of Agriculture.
Tamarack
Court
Our most recent elderly/disabled complex,
Tamarack Court, was constructed in LaGrande, Oregon in 1995. The
thirty-two independent-living units were built in a single-level
style apartment building with central meeting/social area, library,
adjacent kitchen and utility room. This building design gives the
residents better protection from Summer heat and Winter cold which
are always prevalent in LaGrande. Build and owned by OHAS, the complex
is managed by the Northeast Oregon Housing Authority (NEOHA) with
an on-site manager. NEOHA derives an additional benefit: aiding
their low-income applicants to more easily obtain housing. The project
was built using low-income grants from the State and Federal governments
in addition to Limited Partnership Tax Credits.
We are continually on the lookout for
locations for additional elderly/disabled complexes. Our facilities
are situated on two to five acres of ground. We prefer that city
services be available. If you are interested in additional information
